Samsung Posts Record Q3 2026 Profit as AI Chip Demand Surges

October 8, 2026 · N83Zz

Samsung Electronics has announced preliminary guidance projecting a record-shattering operating profit of approximately 107.4 trillion Korean won (roughly $80 billion) for the third quarter of 2026. The extraordinary figures mark the company’s fourth consecutive quarter of record operating profit, far surpassing the previous peak of 89.49 trillion won set just three months prior in the second quarter.

Published on October 8, 2026, the guidance highlights a staggering year-over-year increase of about 782.5% compared to the 12.17 trillion won reported in the third quarter of 2025. Consolidated sales for the quarter are expected to reach approximately 195 trillion won, or about $146 billion, representing a growth of nearly 127% from the same period a year earlier.

AI Infrastructure and Memory Market Impact

The primary driver behind Samsung’s historic financial performance is the relentless global demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. Major cloud providers and AI developers have fueled an unprecedented appetite for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), advanced NAND flash storage, and conventional DRAM.

Industry trackers note that memory chip prices have surged 40% year-over-year amid acute supply constraints. Samsung’s Device Solutions semiconductor division has capitalized heavily on this boom, driven in part by sales of advanced components like HBM4 to major AI chip developers such as Nvidia. DRAM and NAND flash production lines are currently operating at near-capacity to keep pace with workloads ranging from AI accelerator platforms to large-scale data center storage expansions.

Not all sectors within the tech giant shared equally in the windfall. Analysts estimate that Samsung’s mobile business faced headwinds, recording a third-quarter operating loss exceeding $1 billion due to mounting component cost pressures, even as strong consumer electronics sales of premium Galaxy devices and OLED panels provided broader support.

Outlook and Long-Term Projections

Market observers looking at the broader semiconductor landscape find little indication of immediate relief for tight supply conditions. Industry estimates project that memory wafer supply growth will hover around 12% annually through 2027 and 2028. However, because roughly half of that new manufacturing capacity is earmarked for high-margin HBM lines rather than ordinary DRAM, conventional memory bit growth is expected to trail behind projected demand.

To address the ongoing supply crunch, Samsung is continuing infrastructure expansions, including its Pyeongtaek campus where the P5 facility is scheduled to come online by 2028. Driven by these robust market fundamentals, financial forecasts for Samsung stretch well beyond the third quarter. Full-year operating profit for 2026 is projected to exceed 300 trillion won, with early expectations climbing toward 550 trillion won for 2027. Company executives and industry analysts anticipate that robust global demand for AI capabilities will continue to outpace memory capacity growth into 2028.
