Developer Mojang opened pre-orders ahead of the sandbox game’s scheduled release on October 27, 2026, giving players their first look at pricing, bundles, and system requirements for Nintendo’s upcoming hardware.
Free Digital Upgrade Details and Deadlines
Players who already own a digital version of Minecraft for the original Nintendo Switch can secure the new edition without paying full price. Mojang announced that qualifying digital owners can pre-order the digital Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 for free until the end of January 2027 in most territories, excluding Japan and Taiwan. The offer applies exclusively to digital library owners.
For players looking to step up their game, Mojang also confirmed discounted upgrade pricing for broader bundles. Nintendo eShop listings invite qualifying owners to pre-order the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection at a reduced fee, though specific pricing figures for those expanded tiers were not detailed in initial announcements.
Enhanced Features and Bundle Content
Every version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2—whether purchased physically at retail or claimed digitally—comes bundled with the popular Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. The release also introduces enhanced graphical options powered by a feature called Vibrant Visuals.
However, Mojang included important disclaimers regarding the new visual enhancements. Vibrant Visuals will not operate during every gameplay scenario. Specifically, split-screen gaming sessions run without the enhanced graphics option, and certain Marketplace worlds and content will also exclude the feature.
Physical copies of the Switch 2 edition are currently available for retail pre-order, carrying an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+. Meanwhile, the digital promotion window remains open via the Nintendo eShop through January 2027.
