A neighborhood homecoming block party in South Georgia turned into a scene of devastating violence early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead and 35 others injured.
Details of the Vienna Mass Shooting
According to the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the shooting occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. on October 4, 2026. A crowd of more than 1,000 people had gathered for a planned neighborhood block party on Pine Street in Vienna, located about two hours south of Atlanta.
Deputies with the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office were already stationed at both ends of the street to manage traffic and monitor the event when shots were suddenly fired from the 900 block of Pine Street. Authorities immediately responded to the gunfire and discovered multiple victims wounded at the scene. Two individuals in the 600 block of Pine Street were pronounced dead.
Emergency Response and Hospitalizations
Emergency medical services transported the 35 injured victims to several regional hospitals for medical treatment. The sudden outbreak of violence caused widespread chaos as attendees attempted to flee the area.
