A neighborhood homecoming block party in South Georgia turned into the scene of a tragedy early Sunday morning when a mass shooting broke out, leaving two people dead and 35 others injured. The incident occurred in the city of Vienna, located in Dooly County about two hours south of Atlanta.

According to the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), more than 1,000 people had gathered for a planned neighborhood homecoming block party following Friday night festivities. Deputies had been stationed at both ends of the street to manage traffic when gunfire erupted.

Details of the Pine Street Shooting

Preliminary information released by law enforcement indicates that the gunfire broke out at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, in the 900 block of Pine Street. Deputies who were already on patrol and monitoring the area immediately responded after hearing shots fired.

Deputies discovered multiple victims wounded by gunfire at the scene. Two individuals located in the 600 block of Pine Street were pronounced dead at the location. Authorities confirmed that 35 other people sustained injuries during the chaos and were transported to several regional hospitals for medical treatment.

Investigation and Official Response

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office are leading the active investigation into the shooting. Officials have urged anyone with information, video footage, or anonymous tips to come forward to assist law enforcement in identifying those responsible for the violence.
