President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that his political operation will invest upwards of $400 million to support Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. The financial commitment comes as both parties gear up for the November 3 congressional elections, where 470 seats are up for grabs in the Republican-controlled chambers.
Disclosing the staggering figure ahead of a crucial Federal Election Commission filing deadline, Trump stated via social media that more than $300 million has already been deployed. According to his campaign disclosures, the initial funds have gone toward advertising, direct and indirect voter contact, rallies, rally arenas, telerallies, get-out-the-vote programs, and election integrity initiatives.
Midterm Campaign Financials and Major Spenders
Through the end of August, MAGA Inc. reported holding $424 million in the bank. Trump described the multi-million dollar push as an honor on behalf of the Republican Party, aiming to prevent a Democratic takeover of Congress.
Simultaneously, financial backing for the opposing party also ramped up. Representatives for former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg confirmed that he is deploying roughly $80 million across September and October to assist Democrats nationwide. Reports indicate that at least $50 million of Bloomberg’s funds are targeted toward House races, including $24 million directed to Everytown for Gun Safety and $16 million allocated to the House Majority PAC.
High Stakes Ahead of November 3
The competing financial surges highlight the immense political stakes riding on the November 3 midterm congressional elections. With control of both chambers hanging in the balance, both political operations are accelerating their outreach efforts in the final weeks leading up to Election Day.
