Starlink will be used for the first time in Southeast Asia in the Philippines

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and the owner of SpaceX, has introduced Starlink Internet for the first time in the Philippines. This was announced by the Philippine government on March 31, 2022. As a result, the Philippines is the first Southeast Asian country to have access to Starlink Internet.

‘Registration preparations are underway,’ according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. SpaceX’s Internet, according to the Philippines, will be of significant service to isolated places and will increase internet speeds.

SpaceX is currently forming a regional Philippine organization that will eventually become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company. The initial step is to connect to the Internet via three different gateways. SpaceX is confident about the growing number of consumers in the Philippines, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and it is critical that the modification to the Public Service Law be implemented in the home market.

The new law allows unrestricted access to international investment in the country’s main industries, encouraging additional foreign investment. With the launch of its Starlink satellite broadband service in the Philippines, SpaceX is one step ahead of its competitors in the satellite broadband market.

It’s also a watershed moment for a developing country like the Philippines, because it may be used in rural and distant locations. One challenge is competing with the country’s current non-satellite internet services. Following a US investment mission, negotiations between the Philippine government and SpaceX have been ongoing since November 2021. Then, in early March, once the revision to the investment law was signed, there were numerous online gatherings.

The advent of the Starlink service in the Philippines sends a positive message to the globe that there is a rising desire for improved Internet access and additional options,’ said Grace Mirandilla-Santos, an independent ICT policy expert and head of Better Internet PH. Ukraine just received satellite internet equipment from SpaceX’s Starlink.
