The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have eliminated a Hamas terrorist who took part in the abduction and murder of German-Israeli dual citizen Shani Louk during the October 7, 2023, terror attacks. The military action marks the removal of the final individual from a five-person group connected to the widely condemned incident.
Elimination of Tamer Muhammad Ibrahim al-Sabbagh
The IDF confirmed that Tamer Muhammad Ibrahim al-Sabbagh—also identified in reports as Tamer Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Zabaq—was killed in an airstrike. According to the Israeli military, al-Sabbagh was a Hamas military wing terrorist who infiltrated Israel during the initial assault and participated in the kidnapping and killing of Louk, a 22-year-old woman taken from the Nova music festival near Re’im.
During the October 7 massacre, al-Sabbagh was photographed sitting in a white pickup truck beside Louk’s unconscious and half-naked body as militants drove through cheering crowds. The harrowing image became an international symbol of the brutality exhibited during the attacks, shocking people around the world.
Military Action and Ongoing Operations
The IDF stated that al-Sabbagh was targeted and eliminated to remove the ongoing threat he posed. Military officials reported that in addition to his involvement in the October 7 atrocities, al-Sabbagh had more recently worked to plan attacks against Israeli civilians and troops, and was accused of attempting to rebuild Hamas’ military capabilities.
With al-Sabbagh’s death, the Israeli military confirmed that all five members of the specific group connected to Shani Louk’s death have now been accounted for. Separate operations were also noted by authorities, including an airstrike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza that killed another operative, Saher Nidal Latfi Sakr, in a joint operation involving the Israel Police’s Gideonim Unit 33.
The October 7 attacks triggered a massive ongoing conflict in the region, with Israeli forces continuing targeted operations against leaders and operatives linked to the atrocities.
