Mojang Studios has officially opened pre-orders for Minecraft Nintendo Switch 2, alongside detailed information regarding release dates, pricing, and a limited-time digital upgrade path for existing players. The sandbox title is scheduled to launch on the upcoming console on October 27, 2026, with digital pre-orders starting at $29.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
Free Digital Upgrade and Regional Exceptions
Players who already own the digital version of Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch will be able to claim a free digital upgrade to the Standard Edition for the new console. According to Mojang, this promotion is available as a limited-time offer until the end of January 2027 in most territories, though the free upgrade path excludes Japan and Taiwan.
For players looking for expanded content, discounted upgrade paths will also be available for those wanting to move up to the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection. However, the upgrade offer currently applies exclusively to digital owners of the original Switch game, with Mojang’s current announcements detailing no specific free or discounted upgrade option for players holding physical cartridges of the first-generation release.
Enhanced Features and Bundled Content
Every version of Minecraft for the new hardware—whether purchased physically at retail or digitally through the eShop—will come bundled with the popular Super Mario Mash-Up Pack running enhanced graphics powered by Vibrant Visuals.
Mojang has noted that the Vibrant Visuals enhancement option does not apply universally across all gameplay modes. Split-screen multiplayer sessions, select worlds, and certain items from the Marketplace will run without the upgraded graphical settings. Additionally, players will be able to carry over their saved data and progress from the original Switch version to the new console edition.
Pre-Orders and Availability
Physical copies and digital pre-orders are currently live ahead of the October 27 release date. The game carries an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+. As the launch date approaches, players with digital libraries on the original system can secure their copies early to take advantage of the promotional upgrade window before it closes at the end of January 2027.
